Business & DevelopmentWe promote trade and business
development between Uruguay and Minnesota. In 1998, Uruguayan wines were introduced to Minnesota, presented at the Minnesota Food and Wine Experience in Minneapolis a few years later and have been imported and distributed throughout Minnesota ever since! |
Criminal JusticeMinnesota Uruguay Partners Youth at Risk Committee have been working together toward Juvenile Justice Reform and Rehabilitation for 30 years! Started by a couple of travel grants from POA and continued with the financial assistance from the U.S. States Department, the intercontinental work has supported over 50 exchanges.
The work has led to sentencing and judicial reform, community alternatives to restrictive measures, the introduction of Probation and community supervision, the development of tailored disciplines to work with youth and the sharing of treatment modality. In the past few years, there have been 6 exchanges, specifically focusing on improving treatment centers and increasing the safety of the youth and staff. In 2019, the work focused on building systems capacity to launch a Training and Development Center in Uruguay for all staff that work in the juvenile system. Lives have been changed at so many levels. Our colleagues have developed deep relationships, professional development has been expansive, and ultimately the at risk youth in Uruguay are now given improved opportunities to turn their lives around. |
