Ricardo Bonner, the vice president of Minnesota-Uruguay Partners, and other chapter members welcomed nearly a dozen visiting university administrators, rectors and scholars from Colombia in February.
The group, traveling on a Partners grant from the State Department, visited Minnesota as part of tour focused on "Peace-Building Education" in the wake of Colombia's historic peace accords, finalized late last year, that ended a half century of war. By linking Minnesota institutions working on peace-building and conflict resolution with these leading Colombian universities, our chapter contributed to an important effort to produce future institutional partnerships and strengthen the role of the Colombian higher educational institutions in efforts to make the peace process successful and lasting. The group of Colombian visitors was also graciously invited to a private reception at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute organized by Global Minnesota, one of Minnesota's leading nonprofit centers for international affairs.
