We not only dream of a better world, |
About UsWith a 50-year history, the Minnesota-Uruguay Partners of the Americas has built meaningful and lasting ties
across our societies. Working together, we continue to create projects that improve quality of life and expand opportunities for others. Conceived by John F. Kennedy, Partners of the Americas Inc. is a community-driven, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting economic and social development throughout the Western Hemisphere. It has emerged as one of the most influential forces building goodwill and private sector cooperation among the people of the Americas. Today, more than 15,000 people in 46 U.S. States and 28 Latin American and Caribbean nations are active in 60 Partnerships. In fact, two Uruguayans who have been involved with our Minnesota chapter are now on the national Partners of the Americas board of directors. |
Our History |
Partners of the Americas is an international volunteer network that was inaugurated in 1964 by President John F. Kennedy as part of the Alliance for Progress. The goal of the Alliance for Progress is to join volunteers from many walks of life in partnerships between US states and communities (countries and states) of the Americas and the Caribbean improving the lives and relationships of people across the Western Hemisphere.

How It Works |
Through professional exchanges, travelers stay with volunteer families of the host country (both in Minnesota and Uruguay), sharing hands-on expertise and building goodwill for a peaceful global community. Partners of the Americas international office in Washington, DC provides central coordination among all the states and administers grants awarded by the U.S. State Department and other organizations (foreign and domestic). To learn more about our past exchanges and projects, here are a few newsletters from our archives: 1983, 1995, 2006, 2011.
